In a brief chat with Entertainment on Thursday at her fashion outlet in Bakau New town, Ida said she started the profession 20 years ago, when she was brought up and trained by her grand mum.
Ida Saine Conteh explained that she attended St Joseph’s High School where she learned the profession as a subject, thanks to one of her teachers, Mrs George, who encouraged her a lot in Home Economics.
“I did wonders from my form 1 to form 5 and I came out with flying colours in my GCE O levels”.
As a tailoring and designing woman, I attended so many international trade fairs, representing The Gambia in the area of fashion.
Ida a woman with a difference has contributed a lot in the socio economic of this country, when it comes to tailoring and fashion.
Mentioning her educational background, Ida noted that after finishing high school, she first worked with the office of the Accountant General, and later got a sponsorship by the government to do her AAT at GTTI for level 1 and 2 in accounting.
After sometime, I left the course and decided to go in for tailoring and designing as my profession.
Ida travels to Europe every four months, especially to the UK where she has most of her customers.
My future plan is to have a school of fashion and design, where people of this country will learn the profession, she announced, adding that “we are in the world of fashion and designing, so I will do everything possible to make sure that fashion develop in this country”.
Ida Saine Conteh thanked the Gambian leader for giving her two national awards in one year for her good work. “This is a big achievement for me”, she added.
Ida equally thanked her two parents and her husband, Alhagie Conteh, who always supports her. She is married with children.
