Magistrate J.A.Effim of the Brikama Magistrates? Court recently heard a criminal case of careless driving brought against one Simon Sambou.
According to the particulars of offence, on 17th October 2009, along Tabokoto-Brikama Highway, at around 8pm, the accused drove a motor vehicle with a registration number UTSC0 31 bus, without due care and as a result, knocked the police sign board.
In his testimony, Amadou Kujabi, a Police Officer attached to the Yundum Police Station under Mobile Traffic Unit, told the court that he recognised the accused person.
Mr. Kujabi informed the court that, on 7th October 2009 at around 9.00pm, he was at the traffic check point at Abuko, along Brikama Highway where a sign board on the road indicates 25 km per hour.
According to him, the accused was coming from Serekunda towards Brikama with a speed higher than what was indicated on the sign board. Mr. Kujabi added that he signaled the accused to slow down but was still coming with the same speed. As a result, Kujabi testified he knocked the said sign board.
Meanwhile, the accused was granted court bail in the sum of D25, 000 with a Gambian surety.
The case was adjourned to 22nd October 2009.
