Muhammed E. Jammeh, head of department, Economics and Management Sciences, School of Business and Public of the University of The Gambia, passed away on Saturday morning.
He was confirmed dead at the Serekunda General Hospital in Kanifing and was laid to rest at 5pm in Brikama Darsilami cemetery. Mr Jammeh has been battling with recurring diabetes for many years.
Until his demise, Jammeh was the head of department and lecturer in marketing and management, and coordinator of the London Centre of Marketing programme at the UTG.
Prior to joining the UTG in August 2006, he had served as microfinance officer for the Social Development Fund, Bakau Newtown, from 1998 to 2006, and senior lecturer (retired) at the Gambia College, Brikama campus 1989 - 1998.
Mr Jammeh had an MBA in marketing from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1995, and BSc in general agriculture from Njala University, Sierra Leone in 1987.
He published at least three books, received several awards and attended many international conferences and seminars.
Up to the time of his death, Jammeh was the chairman, Board of Directors of Gamtel/Gamcel, and a commissioner at Gambia Competition Commission.
He was a member of the Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa.
