Reports reaching The Point have confirmed that Omar Sompo Ceesay has been appointed Governor of the Upper River Region, URR, effective Thursday 28th November 2013.
Mr Ceesay, a native of Basse Mansajang Kunda, was until his recent appointment, the chairman of Basse Area Council.
He replaced Kanimang Sanneh, who was appointed on September 3rd this year as acting governor, and removed this week.
Governor Ceesay confirmed his appointment to this reporter, and thanked President Yahya Jammeh for the trust and confidence he has in him.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity and development in the URR.
