The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced the immediate closure of two Lower Basic schools for failing to comply with regulations in allowing the teaching of Islamic Education in their schools.
Child Concern Lower Basic School in London Corner, Serrekunda and Lutheran Lower Basic School in Abuko Sanchaba were closed after several attempts by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to ensure adherence to National Education Regulations, a statement issued by the Ministry said Thursday.
The Ministry noted that the act contravened the Laws of the Gambia CAP 46:01 sub-section 38a Vol 7 of the 1997 Constitution, and further stated that arrangements will be in place for the placement of their pupils in other schools.
