UK-based Gambian star athlete due in Banjul today

Nusrat Ceesay, a UK-based Gambian star athlete, is set to arrive in The Gambia to join a host of other popular international sports personalities in gracing the third edition of the annual Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia’s award ceremony due to take place at the Jerma Beach Hotel on Saturday 2 July 2011, Pointsport can reveal.

The 29-year-old Ceesay, who has made no secret of her desire to represent The Gambia in the upcoming Olympic Games in London in 2012, is expected to arrive in Banjul today ahead of the weekend’s high-profile sports event under the invitation of the sports journalists association.

She will be joined by other international football legends including Senegalese superstars El-hadji Joof and Henry Camara, who have confirmed their attendance to Musa Ceesay, chairman of the awards committee and the influential figure behind the initiative.

The Senegalese stars are expected in town tomorrow as preparation for the much awaited sports journalists award gathers pace.

Nusrat Ceesay, widely regarded as one of the hottest properties in the 400m hurdles, entered into athletics at the age of 8. She made a quick impact in the field of athletics and went ahead to gain her national vest for England.

The potential Olympic medalist was the winner of the UK Athletics Championships in the 400m hurdles in July 2009. Her presence at the awards presentation would definitely add more value to the weekend’s event designed to honour the country’s best in sport in the past 12 months.
