Two suspects Ebrima Jeng and Mbye Jeng were yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates' Court before Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai on allegation of receiving suspected stolen drugs.
They were alleged to have received suspected stolen drugs from one Sarjo Dampha a store keeper at the Medical and Health Central Store. They vehemently denied the charge.
Under count one, the alleged offence revealed that on 23rd March 2009 at Tabacco Road and No14 New Street in the city of Banjul, the accused persons received nine cartons of pharmaceutical drugs (capotil 25mg from Sarjo Dampha a store keeper at the Medical and Health Central Store) valued at D27, 000 knowingly or having reason to believe that the said items had been feloniously stolen or illegally obtained and thereby committed an offence.
For count two, the alleged offence stated that on the same day and place, the accused persons received 37 boxes of surgical sutures from Sarjo Dampha valued at D22,000 knowing or having reason to believe that the said items had been feloniously stolen or illegally obtained and thereby committed an offence.
Under count three, the particulars of the alleged offence read that the accused persons on the same day and place received from Sarjo Dampha one carton of an I.V cannular valued at D10,000 knowingly or having reason to believe that the said items had been felonious stolen or illegally obtained and thereby committed an offence.
For count four, the alleged offence indicated that the accused persons on the same day and place received from Sarjo Dampha one carton of lidocaine valued at D2000 knowingly or having reason to believe that the said items had been feloniously stolen or illegally obtained and thereby committed an offence.
While on count five, the alleged offence stipulated that the accused persons received sixteen boxes of "Depo Proveral" Contracceptive Injection valued at D5000 knowingly or having reason to believe that the said items have been feloniously stolen or illegally obtained and thereby committed an offence.
Meanwhile the accused persons were granted court bail in the sum of one million dalasis with a Gambian surety who must prove his or her means. The surety shall deposit leasehold title deed valued at D1M. The accused persons should surrender all their travelling documents to the court. The bail condition further stipulated that the accused persons should not leave the jurisdiction without written approval from the Inspector General of Police. They should also make themselves available at all time during court proceedings.
