Despite loosing to Mali 1-0 in their last group game on Wednesday, The Gambia Armed Forces FC booked their place in the 8th Edition of the African Military Football Cup (CAMFOOT) to be held in Algiers 2010.
The Gambia Armed Forces finished second in Group B with 4 points behind the unbeaten Mali, 9 points, earned them an automatic qualification to the African Championship later next year.
According to the President of the West African Military Liaison Office (WALO), Yankuba Ouadraogo from Burkina Faso, the four semis finalists of the ongoing WALO Championship in Guinea Conakry are qualified for the African championship in Algiers.
He added that the Algerian authorities have requested for four teams from West Africa to qualify for the finals because the sub regional organization is the must effective among the five zones in Africa.
Mr. Ouadraogo pointed out that the Algerian championship will be, for the first time, attended by 12 countries from Africa and the three best teams from that championship will make it to the World Military Championship to be held in Brazil in 2011.
It could be recalled that the Gambia Armed participated to their first African Military Championship in 2008 in Kampala, Uganda where they were eliminated in the first around after drawing all their group games.
