Two convicted for false pretence

Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Alpha Jallow and Abdoulie Bah to a fine of D10,000 each in default to serve six months in prison.

Alpha Jallow and Abdoulie Bah, who both pleaded guilty of the offence of obtaining money by false pretence, were also ordered to pay a compensation of D2,000 each in default to serve three months in prison.

Both sentenced were to run concurrently.

According to the charge sheet, on 3 February 2011, at DippaKunda in the Kanifing Municipality, the convicts by false pretence, obtained from one Ebrima Saidy, a bag containing D1,750 and two mobile phones marked Nokia and valued at D4,500, under the pretext that they were going to pray for him and remove all evil spirits from his body and give him something that would prevent such things from coming back to him.

In a similar development, Magistrate Tabally also recently convicted and sentenced one Modou Lamin Bojang to a mandatory jail term of three months with hard labour.

Bojang pleaded guilty for attempting to commit a felony.

According to the charge sheet, on 27 April 2010, at Fajara, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Modou Lamin Bojang, attempted to commit a felony to wit stealing.
