Jallow and Sankary Drammeh were recently arraigned before Magistrate Gomez of
the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with conspiracy to commit a felony,
attempting to procure abortion and supplying drugs or instruments to procure an
abortion.
The first accused pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to await sentence.
The second accused denied the charges and was granted court bail of D100,000 with two Gambian sureties who must deposit an ID cards.
The case was adjourned till 12 March 2015.
The charge sheet on count one stated that between 4 and 5 December 2014, at Kotu Quarry, in the Kanifing Municipality, they jointly conspired among themselves to commit a felony, therein wit aborting a pregnancy.
Count two stated that with intent to abort her own pregnancy, Jallow unlawfully administered herself with tablets knowing fully that it could cause miscarriage.
Count three read that Drammeh supplied Fatoumata Jallow cytotec tablets which enabled her to abort her own pregnancy.
