Three in court for conspiracy, willful damage to property

Lamin Jarju, Pa Jassey and Ebrima Sohna were recently arraigned before Magistrate Jaiteh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit a felony, willful damage to property and setting fire to a growing plant.

The prosecutors accused Lamin Jarju, Pa Jassey and Ebrima Sohna in count one that in November 2013 at Makumbaya village in Kombo North West Coast Region, he conspired to commit a felony.

In court two, the accused persons were accused that in the same month and place, they willfully and unlawfully entered into the cashew farm of one Valantine Ndeky with intent to intimidate or annoy him.

The prosecutors further accused them that in the same month and place, they jointly cut down 113 cashew trees valued at D30,000 being the property of the said Valantine Ndeky.

In count four, they were alleged to have set fire to 113 cashew trees valued at D30,000 being the property of the said Valantine Ndeky, which the prosecutors said happened in the same month and place.

Meanwhile, Lamin Jarju and Pa Jassey were granted court bail of D100,000 each with a Gambian surety.

Ebrima Sohna, who is currently serving a prison term at State Central Prison of Mile 2, was denied bail.

The case was adjourned to 24 March 2015.
