Tennis Junior championship ends

The Gambia Lawn Tennis Association's junior championship which started a fortnight ago came to an end at the Lawn Tennis Courts at the Independence Stadium in Bakau over the weekend.

Lala Sallah, who is rated as the most outstanding junior tennis player in the country added another accolade to her name as she beat Mariatou Jammeh by 6-2, 6-3 to win the 14 and under-junior tennis tournament under the gears of a capacity crowd, at the Independence Stadium.

Impressive Buba Drammeh (Booban) has once again enjoyed a 1-6, 6-4 and 7-5 TB win against Buba Jawara to claim the boys 14 and under title at the expense of fellow finalist, Buba Jawara in what had produced a scintillating one hour of thrilling final over the weekend.

In Boys 12 and under category, Dawda Kuyateh beat Modou Sallah by 1-6, 6-0 and 6-4 to snatch the trophy on Saturday, while the other final that produced an exciting moment of  tennis final saw Sainabou Chandoum edged pass Fatou Joof in a 6-2, 6-3 victory, as part of the girls 12 and under final over the weekend.

Man of the moment, Fabakary Drammeh, who continued to demonstrate an individual brilliance over his opponents in recent times celebrated his second titles with a win over Lamin Sanneh in Friday's boys 10 and under final by 6-1, 6-4 to go home with an undisclosed amount.

Meanwhile, other final in the girls 10 and under category was postponed due to limited time. But if the words of the Head Coach of the beginners of Gambia Lawn Tennis Association Lamin Drammeh, is anything to lean on, the final would be  played by next week.
