Tali Bi FC on Friday beat Santa FC 2-nil in the opening game of the second season of the Fajara Youth Football Tournament organised by Ma Ansu Nicol and played at the Cocktail Football Field in Fajara.
A brace from Assan Jallow alias Sass was enough to earn his side their first 3 points of the competition sponsored by Joseph Peacock.
Speaking to Pointsports shortly after the game, Joseph Peacock, sponsor of the tournament, said that for the past two years, he had been working with the committee as he found them to be “a very reliable” group.
He expressed his willingness to continue working with them in supporting the tournament.
Mr Peacock noted that the whole idea of the tournament is to bring youths together to compete in a laudable initiative as sport is very important, especially grassroots football.
The initiative keeps the youth from the street, he stated, saying it is something they are “very proud of” and happy to be associated with.
“An initiative like this should be supported,” he went on, while urging the private sector to support the organisers in harnessing the potentials of young people.
“We need to really engage young people because potential engagement brings about success and development to a nation,” he remarked, saying these are talented youths who are prepared to give their best.
“I am calling for support, partnership and collaboration,” he added.
He also called on the players to take part in the competition with discipline as “discipline is very important,” adding: “I will appreciate it if they show discipline and respect, especially among themselves.”
He wished all teams good luck and thanked them for the initiative.
In conclusion, he urged the public to come out in good numbers to watch the games.
