A
Swedish philanthropist, Madam Jenna Nurmi, on Thursday funded a Christmas party
for Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School in Bakoteh.
The
party was sponsored by the lady through Affecting Real Change, a charitable
organisation.
Musa
Saidy, secretary general and founder of Affecting Real Change, said Madam Jenna
is very passionate about helping the poor in The Gambia; she is a strong lover
of Gambian children.
“Therefore,
she decided to collect some donations from families in Sweden and give it to
the needy children in The Gambia,” he said.
According
to Mr Saidy, it is part of the woman’s plan to link Bakoteh Annex with a school
in Sweden so that they will be able to do some fundraising to help the school
in Gambia.
Also,
he said, Madam Jenna will mobilise a lot of donors and volunteers within and
outside her family to give more support to Bakoteh Annex in a bid to lessen the
constraints that the school is faced with.
Mr
Saidy said the Christmas party for Bakoteh Annex was appreciated, thanking the
Swedish philanthropist for “this wonderful gesture”.
SG
of Affecting Real Change said Madam Jenna would be the charity’s trustee in
Sweden.
For
her part, Madam Jenna said she is delighted to be in The Gambia to give support
to school children.
She
said she initially used to collect toys, clothes, school materials and other
stuff for the children.
“But
this time, I want to do something else because I love this country and these
school children,” she said.
