The people of Sukuta village in Kombo North in the West Coast Region last Friday inaugurated their newly constructed mosque witnessed by thousands of worshippers from different parts of the country.
The mosque was solely funded by Gambian prominent businessman Basirou Jawara.
In his inaugural speech, Alhagie Tijan Touray, a member of the mosque committee, said it took them a long time to finish the construction of the mosque
He thanked the Almighty Allah for enabling them to complete the mosque successfully without encountering any difficulties during the course of its construction.
Mr Touray expressed delight over the number of Muslims he saw during the opening ceremony.
Ismaila Cham, another mosque committee member, said they first sought help from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but could not get a positive response from there, adding that as a result of this development the Imam of the village mosque, Alhajie Ismaila Baye, paid a courtesy call on prominent businessman Basirou Jawara and explained to him about the state of the Sukuta Mosque. In response to their concern, Alhaji Jawara came to their aid and did finance the construction of the mosque.
For his part, Akib Bojang, a member of Sukuta Village Development Committee, said he was grateful to Alhaji Basirou Jawara for financing the construction of the mosque.
