In fulfilment of their corporate social responsibility, Standard Chartered Bank on Thursday donated foodstuff to patients of the Serrekunda General Hospital in Kanifing. The donated items included apples, bananas, oranges and some bottles of water.
Speaking to reporters, Olimatou Faal, Corporate Affairs Officer, said what they are doing is part of their sustainability agenda of the bank.
According to her, since the inception of the bank, Standard Chartered has been giving back to the community.
While noting that fruits and water are important in helping the patients in their recovery, which was the main reason why they came up with the initiative, she said, “We have given the hospital bed sheets and mosquito nets in the past and to more is yet to come.”
Catherine Campbell, Officer-In-Charge of medical units said the gesture was a surprise to her. As she puts it, it is not every day that they receive such support.
She further noted that the gesture was going to help the patients in their recovery process, as she highlighted that fruits are very important and nutritive.
Toumani Janneh, Administrator at the hospital, said this is not the first time they have received such assistance from the bank.
