Ebrima
Kanuteh and Sang B. Bajan, staff of ASB Health Centre, were arraigned before
Magistrate Sillah of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing
over one million dalasis. They, however, denied any wrongdoing.
According
to the bill of indictment presented before the court, the accused persons
between the months of 1 January and 31 December, 2017, at ASB Health Centre at
Serrekunda and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of
The Gambia, while being employees of ASBs Health Centre as an accountant and
account clerk, and by virtue of those positions, they fraudulently converted
the sum of D1,751,431 being the proceeds accrued from the entire clinic
operations, the property of ASB Health Centre.
They
were granted bail in the sum of one million dalasis with a Gambian surety who
should deposit a title deed with the registrar of the court and also swear to
an affidavit of means.
The
case proceeded on 3 December, 2019, with the defence of the first accused,
Ebrima Kanuteh. Sub-Inspector Jammeh, who represented the Inspector General of
Police would test the credibility of the accused at the end of his testimony.
The
case was adjourned to 12 December, 2019, for continuation.
