The fundamental mission and vision of the Sports Journalist Association is to enhance and develop sports journalism in The Gambia to the highest level possible.
According to the association’s assistant secretary general, Alieu Ceesay, the association have already set-up an Awards Committee, chaired by the acting President, Musa Sise, with sub-committees that will be working in ensuring an Awards Ceremony with a difference, which is slated to take place in March 2015.
The sub-committees are Marketing and Publicity sub-committee chaired by SJAG 2nd vice president Uthman Jeng and assisted by Mama Faal; the Production sub-committee that will work on video documentaries on awardees and is chaired by Abdoulie Nget and assisted by Rohey Bittaye; and the Protocol sub-committee, whose members comprise female sports journalists.
The awards committee comprises representative from all media houses, because the executive wants to make sure that all media houses are equally represented in whatever the association is doing.
According assistant SG Ceesay, the committee has begun meeting potential institutions and individuals for them to come on board to join the sports journalists to celebrate and recognize The Gambia’s sports personalities; renowned guests, from in and outside the country are expected to grace this year’s award, which is now growing bigger year in, year out.
Ceesay who is also a senior reporter with the Daily Observer newspaper seized the opportunity to once again urged those sports journalists that have yet to settle their membership status with association to come forward and do so, noting that many members have already registered with the association.
