The veteran and one-time great sports personality was a bronze medalist in high jump during The Gambia’s first appearance in a Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970, a national record he kept.
He won silver in 1973 in the second All-African Games in Lagos, where he represented The Gambia.
Faye hailed from the well-known religious Fayen family of Dobson.
He was a receiver of the GNOC most outstanding sports personality of the year in 2011 during the annual sports banquet.
Momodou Max Jallow, executive secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), said the NSC regrets to announce the death of its vice chairman who passed away in the United States on Tuesday 12 February 2013. The late Faye also served on the Interim Committee of the NSC led by Mustapha Alex Dacosta.
