West Coast Region promising wrestler Sisiba, commonly known as the king of the arena, has been crowned champions of the 2014 National Wrestling championship title after beating Kanifing Municipality’s Quarant in a well-contested combat staged at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium at the weekend.
The national Wrestling championship was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in their bid to promote and revive the traditional sport in the country.
As the champions, Sisiba walked away with a flag and cash prize of D10,000, whilst Quarant received D5,000 as consolation prize.
In the individual category, Serry boys of North Bank Region defeated Baye Sal of KMC in the 66kilos, Abozarr of KMC beat Ramaaz of Banjul City Council in the 76kilos, Leket Bu Barra of North Bank Region defeated Passport of Upper River Region in the 86kilos, while Gambia of West Coast Region beat Arobass of Banjul City Council in the 120kilos.
All the winners received a trophy and cash prize of D10,000, whilst the runners-up received D5,000 as consolation prize.
Central River Region grabbed the best cultural dress prize of D5,000.
