A Magistrate Court in Brikama recently convicted and sentenced one Lamin Saidy to a mandatory jail term of one year, six months on charges of shop breaking and escaping from lawful custody.The convict was charged with shop breaking, stealing and escaping from a lawful custody. However, he pleaded guilty to the charge of shop breaking and escaping from lawful custody, but vehemently denied a charge of stealing. According to the particulars of offence on count one, on 30th December 2009, at Brikama, the convict broke and entered into the shop of one Amadou M. Jallow with intent to commit a felony.Count two stated that, on the same day, month, year and place, the accused stole from the shop of the said Mr. Amadou M. Jallow items and cash amounting to D6145.Count three stated that on 31st December 2009, at Brikama, the convict escaped from a lawful custody. The convict, in his plea of mitigation, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, stating that he is a young man and the only breadwinner of his family.Cpl1883 Bojang is the Prosecuting Officer.Magistrate Emmanuel Amadi adjourned the case to 20th January 2010 for hearing on the denied count.
