National
champions Gambia Ports Authority have been paired with Ivorian Premier league
side Sewe Sport in the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup preliminaries at a recent
draw for the tournament.
The
Gambia champions will host the Ivorian premier side in the first leg in Banjul
in February 2017, while the Ivorian side will welcome GPA in the second leg in
Abidjan in a fortnight after the first leg.
Gambia
Ports Authority are third place in the country’s premier league with 8 points
in five league matches four points behind new league leaders Real De Banjul.
Real have secured 12 points in five league matches.
Sewe
Sport are fifth place in the Ivorian top flight with 10 points in six league
matches two points behind league leaders ASEC Mimosa, who have snatched 12
points in six league outings.
Gambia
Ports Authority’s last appearance in the continent’s elite football club
competition was in 2011, when they were eliminated by Senegalese side Jaraaf
2-0 in the second leg of the preliminaries played at the Serrekunda East Mini
Stadium, following a draw in the first leg in Dakar.
