Senegal emerged winners in The Gambia’s first hosted ECOWAS four-super nations wrestling championship competed last weekend at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.
Senegal were crowned the champions after leading as winners of the competition with three victories among the four ECOWAS countries.
However, Nigeria came out second with two victories, Guinea Bissau third with one victory and the host, The Gambia, fourth position with no victory in the final competitions among the four countries.
In the same development, Musa Ndow of Senegal, who competed for the 66kg, was said to be the best wrestler in the competition and was awarded a trophy and cash prize of €150 (one hundred and fifty euros). This award was presented in memory of the late Mamodou Max Jallow.
At the end of the clashes, Senegal went away with a trophy and a cash prize of €1,510 (one thousand five hundred and ten euros), the second holder left with a trophy and €1,130 (one thousand one hundred and thirty euros), Guinea Bissau €750 and the Gambia with fourth position, stayed home with a trophy and a cash prize of €560 (five hundred and sixty euros).
