Academy boys Samger have moved to the top of the 2011-2012 Gambia Football Association (GFA) division league table thanks to a hard fought 1-0 victory over Bakau United in Week 4 fixtures at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium on Tuesday.
Samger opened the score through Muhammed Ceesay in the 18th minute from a spectacular strike, which eventually proved to be the winner for the Academy boys.
Bakau United, who beat town rivals Steve Biko prior to Samger’s clash, fought hard in an attempt to snatch an equaliser but all their efforts proved futile.
FA and Super Cup champions Gamtel were held to a goalless draw by Alagie Sarr’s Real De Banjul in the other Week 4 encounter at the Banjul KG 5 Mini-stadium the same day.
Samger are now leading the table with 7 points in four games with Gamtel sitting in second place with 6 points in four games.
Bakau United sit in the middle of the table with 5 points in four games, while Real De Banjul are rooted 2nd position from bottom with only 2 points in four outings.
