Sabixasseh FC in the 5pm encounter played at the East Park defeated Kerewan Samba Sira FC by 2-nil, with Ebrima Jallow and Mpaba Dambelly registering their names on the score sheet in the 26th and 42nd minutes of the game respectively.
In the early kick-off played at 3pm, Garawol FC beat Numuyel FC by 2-1 in a well-contested encounter.
Ebrima Sillah gave Garawol FC an early lead in the 2nd minute, but his effort was cancelled by Muhammed Hydara for Numuyel FC with 31 minutes on the clock. Alagie Sillah came to the rescue of his side (Garawol FC) sealing the victory for them in the dying minutes of the game.
Speaking to Pointsport shortly after the game, Samba Camara, assistant coach Sabixasseh FC, expressed delight with the performance of his boys, but dissatisfaction with the number of goals they scored, saying he expected more goals.
He stated that with the team they have at their disposal, they can win the trophy they lifted two years ago, adding they need the trophy this year, considering the preparation they made towards the competition.
The confident coach noted that they have a team that is capable of lifting the trophy this year. He commended the organisers of the tournament for the initiative meant to unite all Sarahulehs in the country.
Modou Lamin Camara, Head Coach, Kerewan Samba Sira FC, said this is their first year participating in the competition, adding that they do not worry much about the trophy as they aim to gain experience.
The teams they found in the competition have already established themselves in the tournament, he pointed out, noting that it would be difficult for his side to challenge them in their first year.
He said despite losing they still have confidence that they can win their remaining 3 group stage games, and qualify for the next stage of the competition.
“We are gaining experience in every game we play”, he pointed out.
The organisation of the tournament is a good initiative by the committee, he said, but added that they need to work harder on the timing of their game. His team was supposed to play maximum 45 minutes in each half of their game, he highlighted, but instead they played 30 minutes in each half, which was not favourable.
“If I want to complain they will say it’s because I lost the game, but in reality we should go by the standard timing”, he concluded.EndFragment
