Saamasang Federation, in collaboration with the Child Fund last Thursday distributed items worth over two hundred and eighty thousand, seventy five Dalasi to the 16 clusters in Brikama.
The donated items, which include 750 bed nets, 37 wheelbarrows, 85 rakes, 80 cutlasses, 32 spades, 20 long broom, 50 door mats, 12 dust bins and 50 hand gloves were handed over to the beneficiaries, at a ceremony held at the federation's office in Brikama.
The beneficiaries, among others, included the Brikama Area Council and Health Centre.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Edrisa Cham, the Manager of the federation underscored the pivotal role played by the federation in the community, adding that it supports, protects and helps in educating the young ones and the youths in general.
He revealed that his federation has been giving out bed nets to the community in Brikama every year, and also to the recent disaster victims.
For his part, Mr. Modou Jallow, the Child Fund Manager noted that since its inception Child Fund has been helping the people of Western Region.
According to him, Child Fund has been helping more than 20, 000 children within the Western Region. He advised the donors to put the donated items to good use.
Mr. Alieu Sonko, the Officer-in-charge of Brikama Health Centre, underscored the importance of the gesture, noting that it would go a long way towards helping the Health Centre and Area Council.
He stated that every year the community helps in the cleaning of the hospital and other public places. He promised that the items would be put to good use.
Sainabou Faal, the Deputy Governor of Western Region also advised women to clean their environment, noting that nothing is possible without health.
Other speakers at the ceremony included Madam Kejew J. Joof, the Chairperson of Saamasang and Mr. Juma Jallow, who also spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries.
