Ron Mango Football Club recorded an emphatic penalty shoot-out victory over fellow title challengers Unique FM, to put their names on the history book by becoming the first Newtown team to win the double in a season.
A sensational first half strike from goal machine Lamin Fofana who was awarded the golden boot with his impressive scoring skill gave the champions a deserved lead to put their title hope alive.
But the young striker who is in a fine form for Bakau United had his goal cancelled as Unique FM responded with a superb equaliser, courtesy of centreback Musa Manku’s header to put the game into a real contention.
It was a moment of spectacular performances from the entire members of the team, as well as the coaching staff, led by Alagie Drammeh. The knockout champions went on to win the league final after a dramatic penalty shoot-out under the gears of a capacity crowd at the Bakau Mini-stadium on Friday.
Pa Gassama, the Assistant Coach of the epoch-making Ron Mango squad was so much delighted with his boys' performance at the expense of Unique FM side, headed by Sheikh Tijan Njie, who are still struggling to have a taste of a championship title in more than nine years.
Sheikh Tijan in the build-up to the final told Pointsport that nothing can stop him from winning the trophy, which he described as his own making. But he was left disappointed as he could not manage to win the league title with a team blessed with a good number of youngsters, including big name players like Assan Jatta, Batta Njie, among other top stars.
The joyous Assistant Coach of Ron Mango that won the knock-out title last November went further to thank the fans of the club and all those who have contributed in one way or the other to ensure a successful achievement of the doubles in club history.
He was full of praises for the former Ron Mango hot man Ousman Jallow (Jaddel) and Ebrima Bojang for the support the duo have rendered to the club.
"I would also use the opportunity to commend Sheriff Sanyang, Kebba Touray of MRC and Malang Sarjo for their valuable contributions and wish them all the best in their endeavours," Pa concluded.
