Registration
is open for the 2016 July 22 marathon competition organised under the executive
directive of President Yahya Jammeh.
According
to a press release sent yesterday to this paper by National Organising
Committee of the marathon, registration is “free” and will be conducted from 19
to 28 July 2016 from 8am to 6pm Monday to Thursday at the Gambia Athletics
Association office at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Attractive
prizes will be awarded to winners of all categories and all participants will
be certified.
The
event is part of the national activities marking the commemoration of the July
22 Revolution.
“Members
of the general public are highly welcomed to participate in all events in order
to keep a healthy, competitive society, sportsmanship and friendship,” the
press release stated.

The
championship, slated for 30 July 2016, is organised by the National Organising
Committee of the 2016 July 22 Anniversary celebration marathon “under the
directive of His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia
Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa”.
The
marathon will be in three categories, namely 42 kilometers marathon, which will
commence in Kuloro and finish at the July 2nd Square in Banjul, 21 kilometer
half marathon, which will start at Lamin Galp Petro Station and end at the July
22nd Square in Banjul, and the 10 kilometer marathon, which will start at the
Buffer Zone and finish at the July 22nd Square in Banjul.
