There can't be a better success than being the first Gambian tennis player to win a Gold and Bronze Medals in two different international tennis championship, the first in Nigeria and the second in Ghana in the year 2003.
The current Gambia No 1 tennis star Basuruwa Conteh who started playing tennis at the age of nine, at the Independence Stadium Tennis Courtwas also the first Gambian tennis player to win the Gambia open tennis championship when he was just 17-years- old.

He attended Bakau Lower Basic School, Latrikunda Upper Basic School and the Gambia Senior Secondary School where he graduated with flying colours in 2007.
The ambitious tennis star was also succeeded in winning many international tennis championship medals, such as Ghana and Nigeria in 2003 where he cliched both the Gold and Silver medals in the international tennis federation, which he described as his greatest achievements in tennis arena.
He also has other achievements during [I.T.F] tennis championships in Benin, Guinea Bissau and the neighbouring Senegal.
Basuruwa's magnificent and outstanding performances during the international tennis federation championship in Ghana earned him this popular name, Joja Federal who is rated as the world's second most outstanding tennis superstar, describing the Switzerland international as the best tennis player in the world.
Basuruwa Conteh is no doubt the best tennis player the country can be proud of, due to his gold medal success in various international tennis championships, including his wonderful tennis championship performance locally, a colleague at the Gambia Tennis Association, Yankuba Drammeh told our reporter.
