Prisoner bemoans his health condition

Jul 1, 2008, 4:49 AM | Article By: By Dawda Faye

A remand prisoner at the State Central Prison in Banjul recently told the Kanifing Magistrates' Court that he had been ill for almost three weeks without receiving medical attention.

Bamba Arouna, a Camerounian, lately told Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke that he had complained about his sickness but was told that there was no medicine at the infirmary.

Looking seriously ill whilst in the dock, Arouna appealed to Magistrate Mbacke to allow him time to prepare his defence as he was ill.

But Mbacke advised him to consult the right person as it is his right as a remand prisoner to be treated.

It will be recalled that Arouna was brought to the Kanifing Magistrates' Court where he was charged with money doubling offences. He was since granted bail but could not meet the bail conditions, hence his continued detention at Mile Two.
