The Director of Population, Mr. Saikou Trawally, has spoken on the need to translate the ideals of the population policy into reality.
Mr.Trawally said that it is a necessity to turn from having mere local structures that are just established by policy and left idle, to very productive and efficient entities that would immensely contribute in translating the ideals of the policy into reality.
The Population boss was speaking at the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop on training and reconstitution of members of divisional population task force in Western Region, held recently at the Governor's office in Brikama.
"As PFTs, you comprise representatives of various government agencies and NGOs in the region and often initiate community-based services, and operate as an extension of government services, and as key players in the implementation of the population policy," he said.
In this regard, other regional structures whose activities are monitored and coordinated by you, are vital IEC tools to monitor and evaluate their progress in attaining the goals of the population policy and MDGs," he stressed.
It is only through closer collaboration among all sectors and various organisations of civil society that we will succeed in making practical the promise of the population policy, namely to enhance sustainable human development through integrating the national population concerns into planning for the development of the people of our country," Mr. Trawally said.
He expressed confidence that the training will go a long way in strengthening capacities of members of the population Task force in their bid to perform effectively.
During the course of training the participants would be exposed to contemporary programming issues, and issues relating to their functions as a regional coordinating body.
