Police Academy were crown champions of the 2009 Noran Champions after beating Jarama FC 2 goals to 1 in the 8th edition of Samba Faal's generous trophy, played at Banjulinding Football Field last Saturday in a well-contested final.
Police Academy opened the score through Lamin B. Sarr in the 31st minute from a powerful short that hit the right corner of the net.
As a result, Jarama FC fought back and created scoring opportunities, but Police Academy defended well to leave the first half end in 1-0 in favour of Police Academy.
In the second half of the game, Police Academy who were determined and hungry for victory doubled the score through Lamin B. Sarr in the 50th minute for his second of the day in either halves.
As play unfolded Ousman Camara of the Police Academy was sent off in the 58th minute for deliberately handling the ball at the edge of the eighteen-yard box. Edrisa Khan brilliantly swung the ball into the right corner of the net to reduce the score to 2-1 for his side.
Police Academy went home with a trophy and a cash price of D3000, while the runner-up Jarama FC went home with D2000. Earlier on Friday, King Colley FC defeated Culture FC on penalty shout-out in the junior category. King Colley FC also went home with a trophy and a cash price of D2500, while Culture FC went home with D2000.
The best goalkeeper of the senior tournament went to Kebba Jabbi, while Ebrima Gibba won the leading goal prize.
Speaking to reporters, Samba Faal, the sponsor of the tournament stated that the aim of organising the tournament was to encourage sports within the local community where young talents could be discovered and guided to professional level.
In the same vein, he said it is also geared towards uniting and entertaining the community, especially the youths.
