Paralympics athlete Demba Jarju wins July 22nd Marathon

Demba Jarju, Gambian Paralympics athlete has emerged as winner of the 21km July 22nd Marathon race held on Wednesday 15th October 2014.

Samba Bah of the Gambia Police Force came out second position in the marathon sponsored by President Jammeh as part of events marking the 20th Anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution.

Malang Tamba also a Paralympics athlete finished third in the race that commenced at St. Peter’s Technical School in Lamin and ended at the Arch in Banjul.

According to unconfirmed reports, Lamin Sanneh of the Gambia Police Force who last Saturday returned to the country to compete in the marathon after taking part in the Leeds half marathon was elbowed and fall to the ground unconscious before being lifted and placed off the road by fellow competitors who had to wait for the Ambulance to arrive and pick him up and rush him to hospital before continuing with their race.

As winner of the race, Demba Jarju received a cash amount of D35, 000, a giant trophy and a certificate.

Samba Bah went home with D30, 000 and a certificate as first runner up while Malang Tamba collected D20, 000 and certificate as second runner up.

Gambian renown female long distance runner, Mariama T. Jallow of the Gambia Police Force emerged winner of the 15km race which began at Tallinding market.

She was followed by Paralympics athlete Isatou Nyang who was also follow in third position by Sohna Saho of the Gambia Police Force.

Mariama T. Jallow was rewarded with a cash amount of D25, 000, a giant trophy and a certificate.

Isatou Nyang received D20, 000 and a certificate as first runner up while Sohna Saho went home with a cash amount of D15, 000 and a certificate.

In the female category of the 10km race staged for students, Nyima Marong of Muslim senior secondary school came out first position.

Adama L. Colley of Nusrat Senior secondary school took second position of the race that commenced at Banjul Breweries while Ola Buwaro of Muslim senior secondary school finished third position.

Nyima Marong went home with a cash prize of D20, 000, a trophy and a certificate as winner. Adama L. Colley received D15, 000 and a certificate as first runner up while Ola Buwaro collected D10, 000 with a certificate as second runner up.

In the male 10km category, Echen Obega of St. Peter’s emerged winner and was rewarded with a cash amount of D20, 000, a trophy and a certificate.

Omar Kah of Farafenni SSS came out second position and went home with a cash amount of D15, 000 and a certificate while second runner up Edrissa Touray of Bothrop SSS received D10, 000 with a certificate.
