Pa Mboob is new Immigration Deputy DG

Confirmed reports reaching this paper have revealed that Commissioner Pa Baboucarr Mboob has been appointed the new Deputy Director-General of the Gambia Immigration Department.

Mboob, whose rotation from one section of the Gambia Police Force and Gambia Immigration Department to another has made him a seasoned officer, was until his appointment as Deputy Director, the Commissioner of Administration and Gambis matters at the Immigration department.

Described as very strategic and honest in duty, Mboob has come a long way. He started his civil service career in the Gambia Police Force in 1979, serving in the Criminal Investigating Division (CID) and then moved to the Gambia Immigration Department where he rose up, through dint of determination and discipline, to the rank of Commissioner of Administration and Finance at the Immigration Department, before assuming the position of Deputy Director.

Born on 3rd October 1960 in Sukuta, Kombo North, Western Region, Pa Baboucarr Mboob has undergone a series of training at the Immigration Institute in Kano, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where he won three awards: the Best Student Academic; the Best Shooter (Marks Man) and the Commander of the Largest Hostel award.

He also received a special training on how to combat drugs by BKA in Accra, Ghana.

From January 2006 to January 2007, Commissioner Mboob was Camp Commander and Chief of Administration and Personnel in Darfur, Sudan, as part of the African Union Mission.

In 1994, Commissioner Mboob was the Divisional Commander at Western Region, and he was in charge of three camps namely, Arankoli Kunda, Siffoe and Kitty refugee camps.

In 1995, he was Commander in charge, Upper River Region (Kerr Al-hassan refugee camp), a camp with refugees mainly from Sierra Leone, Liberia, Burundi and Somalia

From 2000 to 2003, he was officer in charge, statistics and investigation and, from 2006, served as lecturer on ECOWAS Protocol, Land Border, Seaport and Airport Procedures.

When contacted yesterday to shed light on the development, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration Ba Ensa Jawara, who is the Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Immigration Department, confirmed the appointment of Mboob, saying it took place with effect from last week.

Jawara described Mboob as “a very hardworking and committed officer”.
