Babucar Choi made the remarks on Thursday during the regional commemoration of the World TB Day on the theme: Stop TB in my lifetime. The commemoration was held in Essau North Bank Region.
Noting that TB remains a public health concern, he said, the defaulter rate has declined from 14% in 2005 to 2% in 2012, which he added, amply demonstrates peoples’ commitment in compliance of TB treatment. He hailed the enormous contribution of the Global Fund and Ministry of Health for scaling up diagnostic and treatment centres to improve access to TB services and increase case detection.
Lieutenant Mam B Sallah, the Commander of Essau Military Barrack, who deputised for the Regional Governor, lauded the efforts of the national TB Control Unit and Global Fund in complementing government efforts in the attainment of quality health care service.
Mr. Sallah used the occasion to thank President Jammeh and the government for attaching great importance to the health and well-being of its populace.
Lamin Fofana, a Nurse at Essau Health Centre delivered a vote of thanks and then assured nurses for their support to TB patients.
