People
of Nianija District in the Central River Region (CRR) have celebrated Nianija
Day in Buduk, aim to promote peace, unity, culture and development of the
district.
The
ceremony was attended by dignitaries including tourism and culture minister
Hamat NK Bah, chiefs, regional governor Sheriff Abba Sanyang, Nianija National
Assembly Member Amadou Camara, minority leader of the National Assembly Samba
Jallow and the Director General of National Centre for Arts and Culture Hassoum
Ceesay, among others.
Tourism
minister Hamat NK Bah, highlighted the importance of culture in national
development and improving a country’s economy, saying his ministry is committed
to cultural promotion.
Governor
Sheriff Abba Sanyang spoke on the importance of peace in national development,
advising the young people to keep on maintaining the peace and to work to
support the development of the country.
Nianija
chief Dawda Yourk expressed appreciation for the way the celebration was
conducted, calling on the young people of the district to forge ahead for the
development of the district.
He
appealed to them to respect elders and their leaders and build unity among
themselves for the benefit of the district.
