Hundreds of Muslim leaders and followers of the Islamic faith from across the neighbouring villages and towns in the Kombos and Greater Banjul Area and beyond on Friday 3rd May 2013 witnessed the inauguration of a new Mosque in Wellingara village.

The mosque, located just adjacent to Wellingara Police Station, was inaugurated at a ceremony led by Imam Sheriff Bajan.

In his inaugural sermon, Imam Bajan reminded the gathering of the significance of constructing Mosques in Muslim settlements and the rewards of such investments.

He reminded Muslims that erecting a Mosque is one thing, but another significant expectation of the Muslim, he further added, is to worship and attend the five daily prayers in the House of God, as preached by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

The Imam further advised the gathering to live together in peace and harmony, saying that the Prophet (P.B.H) had preached that a true believer should wish his neighbour or relative the best of what he wishes for him or herself.

He further stated that a true believer should always be a clean-hearted creature, who should have love and care for his fellows.

“We should not neglect the main purpose of why we were created by God and we should at anytime avoid hurting among each other. We should always seek forgiveness from God and from our fellows, if anytime we hurt or offend them,” said the Imam.

He concluded by saying that “We should never disparage anyone as we are all servants of Allah, created by God who only knows His creations. Let us respect, care and love one another.”
