The Secretary-General of the Gambia Workers Union, Ebrima Garba Cham has said that they are very much concerned about the unfair dismissal and mistreatment of workers in the country.
Mr Cham made these remarks in an interview with this reporter at the occasion, marking the 23rd edition of the May Day Mass Sports, held at the July 22nd Square in
Cham also observed that workers should keep their work with great respect and responsibility, as well as deliver as expected of them.
“We are here to represent the workers and ensure that justice prevails, if you are not a member, you do not give us the mandate to represent you,” he told reporters.
He raised concern on the need to increase the salaries of workers, as prices of commodities accelerate to meet their requirements.
He further urged workers to register with the union, as he stated, they give them the mandate to represent them as a union in case of any eventuality.
According to him, the membership of the union is open to a worker of any institution who should provide a passport size photo and annual subscription of D250.
