Fifty flood and twelve fire victims within KMC over the weekend received donation from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), through the office of the Vice-President and the Great Commission Movement Gambia (GCMG).
The donated items included 400 carton of rice from the GCMG, while the NDMA donated 5 bails of second hand clothes, 6 bags of rice, 3 mattresses, 50 aqua boxes, 270 plastic buckets, 270 sanitary pads and 270 bottle bleach.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Chairman of KMC Disaster Management Committee Mr. Musa Mendy thanked both the NDMA and GCMG for their timely intervention to the disaster victims in his area. He assured the two donors that the materials given to the victims would be used for its rightful purpose.
Mr. Mendy advised the victims not to build their compounds on the water paths, noting that one should always be careful where to settle their families.
Mr. Mendy also told the disaster victims of what President Jammeh has done for his KMC disaster victims and other disaster victims throughout the country. He thanked other donors for coming to the aid of the victims in his area, namely Concern Universal, Red Cross, WFP, NEA, among others.
Yusupha Sanyang, the Deputy Mayor of KMC, who stood in for the Mayor of KMC thanked all those who have assisted the KMC disaster victims since last year. He also thanked NDMA and the GCMG for the consideration given to their programmes.
He described the donors as partners in development, urging the beneficiaries to make the best use of the materials.
