National Volleyball Team leaves for Sierra Leone

An eight-member delegation of male and female including three officials of the Gambia National Volleyball team, is expected to leave Banjul tomorrow, Saturday 2 July 2011 for Sierra Leone to take part in the second round of the Continental Beach Volleyball competition.

The championship will take place from 2 to 6 July 2011, according to Musa Casa Taal, president of the Gambia Volleyball Association (GBVA), who is also expected to travel with the team.

It would be recalled that the Gambia Beach Volleyball team made it to the second round of the continental showpiece after finishing as bronze medalist in the first round of the qualification held in Dakar, Senegal, earlier this year.

The eight players selected from various national volleyball teams in the country are: Sanu Secka, (Gamtel/Gamcel Volleyball team), Ebrima Nyass (Interior Volleyball team), Tijan Njanko, (Olympafrica Centre/Serrekunda East Volleyball team) and Ousainou Jatta (Jeshwang Volleyball team), while the female players are: Saffie Sawaneh (Olympafrica Centre/Serrekunda East Volleyball team), Abie Kujabi (Brikama Volleyball team), Sainabou Tambedou (Jeshwang Volleyball team) and Louis Joof (Gamtel/Gamcel Volleyball team).

The three officials are Musa Casa Taal, President of the GVBA, who is also the head of the delegation to Freetown, Sierra Leone; Bai Dodou Jallow, an international volleyball referee, and Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy, Development Officer, National Sports Council.

The team is expected back home on Tuesday.
