Lamin Sima, an officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG)
was recently arrested by personnel of the Anti Crime Unit of The Gambia Police
Force (GPF) with four suspected bags of cannabis at Penyem village, West Coast
Region, The Point has been reliably informed.
The
suspect who was detained by the police after his arrest has been handed over to
the DLEAG as investigation into the matter continues. A source that spoke to
our reporter on the condition of anonymity has confirmed that two other
suspects who are believed to be with the principal suspect are currently on the
run.
The
suspect, our source added, was once arrested by the agency after a complaint
was lodged against him. “Investigations
were conducted and the Professional Standards Disciplinary Committee (PSDC) of
the agency recommended that suspect to be demoted from the rank of Chief
Inspector to Sergeant and be given a warning letter.”
The
spokesperson of DLEAG, Ousman Saidybah, confirmed the arrest and detention of
the suspect, adding that investigation in connection with the matter is still
ongoing.
“However,
let me emphatically make it clear that DLEAG will not entertain any misconduct
and will deal with anyone who is involved in drug related activities or
anything that will tarnish the image of the agency.”
“Nobody
is above the law and the general public is therefore urged to report any kind
of activities especially on drug related issues involving its officers. We will
continue working with our sister securities in order to make the country free
from drug and make the country a crime free nation.”
