After the tribute concert of late Musa Afia Ngum, the Musa Ngum Tribute Committee has donated D35,000 to help sustain the legacy and support his family.
The
tribute concert was done on 15 October 2016 at Alliance Francaise along Kairaba
Avenue. The concert attracted Gambian artises including Sambou Susso,
Tatadingding, Cees Ngum, T. Smallz, ENC, Jazzle, Prince Melo, Kerr Gi Family,
as well as many more artistes.
Ngum
died while on a tour in Senegal, where he performed alongside his son Yuspha
Ngum alias Jollofman and Omar Pene at the club called Just For You, on 10
October.
He
was rushed to Le Dantec Hospital in the early hours of 11 October 2015 and was
later pronounced dead. He was laid to rest in Senegal on 12 October, 2015.
Shortly
after the demise of the veteran Gambian artiste, both home and abroad setup the
Musa Ngum Tribute Committee to help sustain his legacy and raise funds to
support his family.
The
project started with the establishment of a Gofundme account to raise funds for
the family, followed by the production of two tribute songs, one of which was
released in February of last year and another one was released on the tribute
night.
The
Committee thanks everybody who contributed in one way or the other towards the
success of this project, especially those who participated financially and the
musicians who participated in the tribute songs.
Speaking
at handing over of the donation at Musa Afia Ngum compound, Njundu Badjie,
spokeperson of Gambia Association of Gambian Promoters and Producers, said the
donation was meant to recognize the vital role that the veteran Gambian
musician played in Senegambia music.
Badjie
commended all the stakeholders that have contributed in the process by donating
this token of monies to the family.
Njuku
Malick, from the tribute committee representing the Diaspora, described the
late Musa Ngum as an icon who believed in the performing arts.
