Gambian midfield sensation Mustapha Jarju admits he was extremely delighted to play a part in Mons promotion to the Belgian top tier football league after an impressive season marked by some spectacular scoring record.

The former Steve Biko midfield maestro, who moved to Belgium to sign a two year professional contract with previous club K. Lierse SK alongside his Gambian compatriot Assan Jatta in 2006, was both the head and the heart of the Mons successful campaign, which saw them regain promotion to the first division league after an impressive campaign in the second division.

Jarju was the hero of the day for Mons, after his strike was all Mons needed to secure a sensational move back to the top tier league, thanks to a fine individual effort as he completed his 18 league goal of the season amid words of praises from Mons management, who are still keen on keeping hold onto one of their price assets for a lengthy spell.

He was pleased to have contributed to the club’s return to the top flight, saying, "I am very pleased to be among the current Mons team returning to the first division, and it is always very special to score a decisive goal in such a crucial and joyous moment in one's playing career.

"I thank my teammates for their role in making sure we are back to the first division, because without their contribution I alone cannot do anything significant," said the Scorpions midfielder who is currently in Libreville looking set to lead the Scorpions team in their friendly game against Gabon tomorrow.

Jarju who has many senior national team caps under his belt said he wants to focus on helping Mons maintain its position in the first division, but has refused to distance himself from a possible switch to any of Europe's top football club in future.

He scored 25 goals in all competition for Mons this season.
