The Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure (MoICI) yesterday validated a report for the establishment of a National ICT Agency of The Gambia. The validation workshop took place at the Ocean Bay Hotel.

Presiding at the event was the permanent secretary at MoICI, Lamin Camara, who said MoICI through the support of the UNDP country office engaged a consultant to conduct a feasibility study on the establishment of a National ICT Agency.

Since the adoption of the E-Government implementation strategy and plan, institutions have been implementing their ICT needs ranging from infrastructure, networks to services but most are isolated and some are duplicates of others, Camara added.

The deputy permanent secretary of MOICI, Alhagie Malick John, said his ministry is now at the forefront of putting in place an optimal ICT system within government circles.

Mr John thanked the UNDP for its support toward the establishment of a national ICT agency, and urged participants to do justice to the validation exercise.
