A mobile police officer recently testified at the Brikama Magistrates' Court before Principal Magistrate Abeke in the trial of one Jakari Jallow charged with rash and negligent act causing death.

Testifying, Wally Joof told the court that he is a police officer attached to the Brikama Mobile Traffic Unit and that he recognised the defendant, JaKari Jallow.

"On 22 November 2010, I was assigned to obtain cautionary and voluntary statements from the defendant. I invited an independent witness by the name Samba Jallow," he told the court.

He said that after obtaining the statements, it was read all over to the defendant in the language he claimed to have understood and he thumb-printed and the independent witness signed.

CPL Joof revealed that the statements obtained from the defendant was in connection with a fatal accident that happened at Kabafita junction involving a motor vehicle truck with registration number BJL 6108B driven by the defendant, and a pedal bicycle rode by the deceased, Tijera Jadama.

The statements were later tendered and admitted by the court as exhibits without any objection from the defendant.

Hearing resumes on 2 March 2011.
