Prolific
striker Modou Lamin Nyassi has fired defending super nawetan champions
Serrekunda East to a slender victory over Bakau in the opening 2019
Africell-sponsored super nawetan competition.
The
East boys defeated Beach boys Bakau 1-0 in the opening match of the country’s
community biggest football gala, played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on
Saturday.
Both
sides played defensive and offensive football, crafting few goal scoring
opportunities.
Striker
Modou Lamin Nyassi could have opened the scores for Serrekunda East in the 9th
minute of the match but his efforts went away.
Baboucarr
Gibba came very close to opening the tally for Bakau in the 15th minute but his
shot was denied by Serrekunda East custodian Lamin Jammeh.
Modou
Lamin Nyassi had another chance to give Serrekunda East the lead in the 44th
minute but his effort was denied by Bakau net-minder You Kasseh.
Nyassi
opened the scores for Serrekunda East in the 45th minute of the match from a
clinical finish to give the East boys the lead thus the first half ended 1-0 in
favour of Serrekunda East.
Upon
resumption of the game, Bakau injected several fresh legs and dominated
Serrekunda East.
Kalifa
Kanyi could have leveled the matters for Bakau in the 46th minute but his shot
was punched away by Serrekunda East short-stopper Lamin Jammeh.
Modou
Lamin Nyassi could have doubled Serrekunda East lead in the 68th minute but his
shot was denied by the woodwork.
Bakary
Badjie came close to leveling the scores for Bakau in the 90th minute of the
match but his effort went away thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Serrekunda
East.
