Medina Utd sail to knockout in Alagie Mbye trophy

Medina United have booked their place to the knockout stage on the ongoing 2015/16 nawetan organised by Ndofan Sports Committee with the financial backing of Alagie Mbye, manager Seaports Customs.

This followed their 3-1 win over Busura FC on Friday at the Biri-Biri Mini Stadium in Ndofan village, Lower Niumi District, North Bank Region.

Medina United, who have won 3 matches in a row to collect maximum 9 points, have become the first side in Group B to secure automatic qualification to the knockout stage of the competition.

On Saturday 10 October 2015, 2014-15 champions Barcelona FC drew 1-1 with Wellingara FC with Ngean Surr registering Barcelona FC’s goal and Kuruma Jatta being on target for Wellingara FC.

Barcelona FC have now collected 5 points from 3 games after recording a win and two draws in three encounter. Wellingara are rooted bottom of group A.

Old Hands FC of Ndofan were on Sunday 11 October beaten 2-0 by Turka United of Kerr Jatta Village. The game was Old Hands FC’s first game of the tournament against the 2014-15 runners-up.

Meanwhile, Fass FC on Sunday 11 October 2015 beat Jokko FC by 3-1 in the ongoing Bayba Financial Services-sponsored tournament organised by Lower Niumi North Football Association and played at the Mbollet-Ba Lower Basic School football ground.

A brace from Laity Nyan in the 17th and 36th minutes couldn’t help Jokko FC to avoid a defeat to Fass FC as Abdoulie Bah and Babou Jobe were on target for Fass FC in the 25th, 28th and 47th minutes respectively.

Earlier on Saturday, Sam Mbollet FC lost to Mbankam FC by a goal to nil with Sulayman Sonko scoring the only goal of the game in the 26th minute.

Friday’s game between Kerr Jatta FC and Misiranding FC was called off due to Gambia’s game against Namibia.
