Brufut Marathon Run Association Extends Apologies

Eight-kilometre runner Mariama T Jallow, who was supposed to make her debut appearance in the Cancer Research UK road race this year could not make it, says Brufut Marathon Run Association.

Mariama who booked her qualification to the UK charity run, after finishing first during last year's Brufut Marathon Run was supposed to be the first Gambian Athlete to participate in this grand fundraising event.

In a release sent by the BMRA and signed by its chairman Ba S Jabbi , reasons for youngster Mariama Jallow's lack of participation in the event has been linked to unavoidable circumstances.

Below is the full text of the release:

Brufut Marathon Run Association would like to inform the general public that due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control, Mariama T Jallow the female winner of the 14th edition of the Brufut Run' could not run for Cancer Research UK road race this year even after being qualified to run by virtue of her registration by the association.
In this light, we would like to apologise to Miss Jallow, her family and friends for any possible inconveniences caused by this situation.
We will further take this opportunity to reaffirm our sincere commitments to the promotion of Gambia's long distance runners nationally and internationally.
Finally, this year's Brufut Run (Race against Malaria) will take place on the 12th of December 2009 and all potential runners are here-by advised to start preparing ahead."
