Marakissa beat Manduwar 2-1 in the opening game of the 2011 Saamasang sponsored Kombo Central District football tournament at the Marakissa playground on Saturday.
Organised and coordinated by the Kombo Central District Sports Committee (KCDSC), the tournament is meant to promote and develop grassroots football in Kombo Central.
The kick-off was taken by the National Assembly member for Kombo Central, Abdou Jarjue, and witnessed by local spectators from Marakissa and its surrounding villages.
In Sunday’s games, Bakary Sambouyaa also beat Penyem 2-1 at the Marakissa playground, while Kitty was held to a goalless draw by Kassa Kunda at the Kitty playground.
Sixteen teams are vying for the championship title. These are Marakissa, Penyem, Farato Sotokoi, Kitty, Bakary Sambouyaa, Kassa Kunda, Kembujeh, Busura, Jalabang, Bururanding, Jamuwel, Bafuloto, Dasilami, Kabekelly and Dimbayaa.
The 2011 Gunjur junior league tournament organised and coordinated by World Trade Centre Sports Committee (WTCSC), and meant to promote and develop grassroots football in Gunjur and its environs, will reach its semifinal stage this weekend at the Gunjur playground, after a successful completion of the quarterfinal matches last weekend.
On Saturday, 15 January 2011, Sunderland FC will clash with Central Gunjur FC in the first semifinal clash, while Black Panthers FC will meet Young Gamcel FC in the second semifinal game on Sunday.
