Wellingara-based
team Manchester United was on Saturday crowned champions of the
Africell-sponsored Serrekunda East Nawettan league cup tournament following a
4-3 post-match penalty shootout win over Bijankerr United, after a goalless
stalemate in the regulation time.
The
game which attracted football lovers in Serrekunda East and beyond, was played
at the Serrekunda East Park.
The
much-awaited final played with lot of fanfare saw both teams produce limited
goal-scoring chances with none of them capitalising on the chances created,
forcing the game into a stalemate.
As
winners, Manchester United were awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D60,
000, while runners-up Bijankerr United went home with a consolation prize of
D40, 000.
Meanwhile,
Uprising FC was also crowned champions of the SESDO knockout tournament
following a controversial win over Bantaba in the final.
Alkali,
Public Relations Officer of SESDO explained that they did not have the
opportunity to present Uprising FC their trophy at the end of the game as
Bantaba were found wanting of violating the rules and regulation of the game.
He
added that Bantaba FC was not given an award as they are penalized for
violating the rules of the game but Uprising FC were later given a giant trophy
and a cash prize of D30, 000.
